“I did not pray for any relief, but I prayed for strength to suffer with courage, humility, and love.” ~ Brother Lawrence

I learned something new this week. You probably already knew it, but I can be a bit oh… on the slow side. You may also know I have zero problem humiliating myself for your entertainment. It’s a calling really, so I embrace it.

Anyhow, I am reading John Bevere’s book Relentless: The Power You Need To Never Give Up, and I had an epiphany regarding God’s grace.

God’s grace not only saves us, it empowers us.

“My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.” 2 Cor. 12:9

“All who receive God’s abundant grace and are freely put right with Him will rule in this life through Christ.” Romans 5:17

What does it mean to rule? Trust me, it doesn’t look or sound remotely like what we see in our culture. It means to know God’s power can and will be with you through any adversity the enemy would set before you. You can remind the enemy that your God has already provided a way through!!! And ultimately if you’re surrendered to the Lord, He doesn’t need your ‘strength’, He works even more beautifully through your weaknesses.

This doesn’t mean the adversity will suddenly disappear. God never promised life would be easy, but we go through it strengthened by the fact that His grace truly is sufficient. We can come boldly to the throne of grace, to the God whom Jesus prayed to for equipping, for empowerment, for grace in every situation.

It is God’s grace that empowers us to be & do what He’s set before us, to be the extension of His Love to a desperate & lonely world, even though we may be going through our own trials. We can not do it without God’s grace. I mean that literally. By ourselves, we have nothing to offer anyone. So if we’re out there doing what would be considered ‘good works’, it’s hogwash without God’s love & power flowing through us.

So are you feeling weak, ill-equipped, burned out? {Holla!} You & I are in a fantastical place to remind God of His Word ~ that His grace is all we need. He will empower us as we cling to Him, to His presence, and to reality that we are children of the King of Kings… THE BOSS. If we, in faith, start praying as if we are empowered (cuz we are), we will rule through Christ’s grace in the midst of the storms of life.

Perhaps you’re stressing, striving, and begging God for relief so you can do His will. Or maybe that’s just my bleeding, pleading heart echoing back at me. We are at THE perfect place to grab hold of His GRACE and remind ourselves the power to persevere through adversity comes from knowing that just as Jesus ruled in life and brought heaven to earth, we are equipped to do the same works as He did… and even greater works. (John 14:12)

As you go about your week, my friend, don’t just give God your heart… give him your soul. Surrender your mind, your will, your emotions to a gracious God who has already provided the way through.

Start with… ‘God, I’m thankful we’re in this together. I’m thankful You didn’t just drop me down here on this crazy earth to try to do it all on my own. I’m thankful your grace has provided & empowered me to be & do what you’ve called me to, even though I’m not all put together first. I thank you that your grace is sufficient in my weakness & You see me through every adversity. I trust You, Lord. Amen.’

How would you describe grace?

Shine On!
